James’ diverse skill set includes troubleshooting, electrical and mechanical repairs, welding, refrigeration, HVAC systems, carpentry, and drafting/blueprint reading. He is also proficient in compressed air systems and steam systems (boilers), making him a highly adaptable engineer capable of addressing a wide range of technical challenges.
He has worked sea terms on bulk carriers such as the Cuyahoga, Kaministiqua, and Manitoba, Assistant Engineer on the M/V Tecumseh, a 700ft bulk carrier.
James was a Project Team Engineer aboard the M/V Manitoulin, a 640ft self-unloading bulk carrier. He was responsible for monitoring, commissioning equipment, and ensuring the proper functioning of machinery as part of the vessel’s new-build project in Jiangyin, China.
As a 2nd Engineer aboard the M/V Saginaw, a 640ft bulk carrier, James was entrusted with maintaining the main propulsion system (MAK 6M43C), steam plant, and electrical systems onboard.
In 2018, James took on on the role of 2nd Engineer aboard the prestigious M/Y Titania, a 73m Lürssen yacht. James is still actively in the superyacht industry as a chief/second engineer ranging on yachts from 50-75M.
James holds an STCW III/2 Engineer Unlimited certification, valid until 2029, along with STCW MED training. He is a graduate of the Great Lakes International Marine Training Centre, where he completed an STCW-approved cadet training program at the management level.
