Small Seasonal Passenger Vessel Safety (SSPV): Non-Certificated Personnel

This Transport Canada approved 6-hour course is a requirement for seasonal personnel working aboard commercial passenger vessels in Canada. Compliant with TP4957E of the standards for Marine Emergency Duties Training Courses. Upon completion a Transport Canada certificate is issued to each trainee.

Course Objectives

Provide crew members with:
a) a basic understanding of the hazards associated with the marine environment and their own vessel;
b) the knowledge necessary to raise and react to alarms and deal with the initial stage of an emergency;
c) an ability to provide assistance in fire, abandonment and other emergency situations;
d) the knowledge and skills to assist in their own survival and rescue;
e) the ability to knowledgeably follow orders from the vessel’s officers in
emergency situations.

Small Seasonal Passenger Vessel Safety (SSPV): Certificated Personel

This 6-hour course satisfies the requirements for marine emergency duty training for certificated personel holding a master or mate limited certificate and working aboard seasonally operated small passenger vessels.  This course is Transport Canada approved and complies with TP4957E of the standards for Marine Emergency Duties Training Courses. Upon completion a Transport Canada certificate is issued to each trainee.

Course Objectives

To provide officers with a knowledge of:
a) current regulations with regard to fire and boat drills, life saving apparatus and safety equipment;
b) proper stowage, care, maintenance and servicing requirements for safety
equipment and appliances on board the vessel;
c) crew management with regard to safety, training and organization;
d) shipboard administration and appropriate record-keeping;
e) crowd and passenger control.
